Wolves Drop Pair of Contests to Delgado

WESSON – The Co-Lin Baseball team returned to action hosting Delgado in a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 28. The Dolphins swept the Wolves taking game one, 17-4, and game two, 20-0.

GAME ONE

The Wolves jumped out to an early lead as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Brentley Berry (Magee) and Josh Boone (Foxworth) reached base on back-to-back errors to start the inning while Harrison Mohead (Madison) loaded the bases for the Wolves with a bunt single. Berry then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryland Hemphill (Florence) while Boone scored on an RBI double by Sam Thomas (Ridgeland) making the score 2-0. The final run for the Wolves came when Mohead scored as Alford Hill (Isola) reached base on an error giving the Wolves a 3-0 lead.

The Dolphins responded with a big inning in the top of the second as they took the lead with 12 run to make the score, 12-3. The Wolves responded with a single run in the bottom half of the inning as Berry reached base on an error and then scored on an RBI-double by Boone making the score, 12-4.

The Dolphins then added one run in the fifth and four in the sixth while holding the Wolves to two hits in the third through sixth innings to seal the 17-4 win.

The Wolves totaled five hits as a team with Brentley Berry, Josh Boone, Harrison Mohead, Sam Thomas, and Hayden Babineaux (Church Point, LA) had one hit each. Boone, Hemphill, and Thomas had one RBI each for the Wolves.

Wyatt Hodges (Brookhaven) got the start for the Wolves and moved to 0-3 overall with the loss. Hodges pitched 1.2 innings allowing nine runs, all earned, on five hits with four walks. Craig Bass (Brookhaven) pitched 2.2 innings of relief allowing four earned runs on six hits with one walk and one strikeout while Hunter Rhymes (Lucedale) pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing four earned runs on five hits with one strikeout.

GAME TWO

The Dolphins opened the scoring early as they plated nine runs in the first. The Dolphins then kept the Wolves bats quiet throughout the first three innings as they added four runs in the second and one in the third. The Dolphins then added five runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth while allowing the Wolves one hit in the bottom half of each inning and secured the game two win.

Alford Hill and Braden Freeman (Terry) had the two hits in the game for the Wolves.

Javen Moses (Columbia) got the start for the Wolves and moved to 0-1 overall. Moses pitched 0.1 innings allowing nine runs, all earned, on five hits with three walks. Jayden Duncan (Foxworth) pitched 1.1 innings of relief allowing four earned runs on five hits with one strikeout while Tedrick Page (Taylorsville) pitched 2.1 innings of relief allowing six earned runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Kade May (Florence) pitched one inning of relief allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout.

Co-Lin is now 4-11 overall and returns to action with a doubleheader on the road at Southwest Mississippi. The Wolves will face the No. 15 Eagles of Hinds at 3 p.m., and then face the Bears at 6 p.m., in Summit on Wednesday, March 1.
