Wolves Drop Road Doubleheader to Bobcats

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Baseball team returned to conference play with a road doubleheader against No. 11 Jones on Tuesday, March 21. The Bobcats swept the Wolves taking game one, 11-1, and then taking game two, 3-0.

GAME ONE

The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead as they scored one run in the second and two in the third making the score, 3-0. The Bobcats also kept the Wolves bats quiet for most of the contest as the Wolves stranded multiple baserunners over the opening innings and could not cut into the early Bobcats lead.

The Bobcats then doubled their lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 6-0. The lone run for the Wolves came in the top of the eighth as Hayden Babineaux drew a one-out walk, advanced to second and third on wild pitches, and then scored later in the inning on a passed ball making the score, 6-1.

The Bobcats closed out the game with five runs in the bottom half of the inning sealing the 11-1 win in eight innings.

The Wolves totaled four hits as a team with Hayden Babineaux going 2-for-2 at the plate while Brentley Berry (Magee) and Josh Boone (Foxworth) had one hit each.

Connor Pittman (Waynesboro) got the start for the Wolves and fell to 1-2 with the loss. Pittman threw six innings allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Jayden Duncan (Foxworth) pitched one inning of scoreless relief allowing one hit while Hunter Rhymes (Lucedale) pitched 0.2 innings of relief allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Wyatt Hodges (Brookhaven) allowed one hit in a relief appearance.

GAME TWO

The Wolves looked to get on the board early in game one as they had two runners on with two outs after singles by Brentley Berry and Josh Boone, but a strikeout brought the early scoring threat a close. The Bobcats then scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Wolves then got three combined hits in the second through fifth innings but could not push the runs across to leave the score at 2-0. The Bobcats added their third run in the bottom of the fifth to increase their lead to 3-0. The Bobcats then allowed just one baserunner for the Wolves in the final two innings to secure the game two win.

The Wolves totaled five hits as a team with Brentley Berry going 3-for-3 at the plate while Josh Boone went 2-for-2.

Conner Wilson (Osyka) got the start for the Wolves and fell to 1-5 overall pitching 3.1 innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
