Wolves Drop Games Against Bobcats and Warriors

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Baseball team returned to play with a non-conference matchup against Jones and No. 10 East Central on Tuesday, February 20. The Wolves lost to the Bobcats, 6-1, and then dropped their game against the Warriors, 11-1.

GAME ONE

The Wolves struggled in the early part of the game getting just one baserunner in the first through fourth innings via a leadoff walk drawn by Brayden Bankston (Terry). However, the Bobcats scored a solo run in the third and fourth innings to hold a 2-0 lead after four innings of play.

The Wolves then scored a run in the top of the fifth as Jon David Weed (Terry) hit a leadoff single while Lucas Harrington (Youngsville, LA) drew a walk, and Jordan McKenzie (Franklinton, LA) was hit-by-pitch to load the bases with no outs. Christian Cameron then hit an RBI groundout to score Weed and cut the lead down to 2-1 while leaving two runners on with two outs. However, a strikeout ended the potential big inning for the Wolves.

The Wolves then held the Bobcats scoreless in the bottom of the fifth and looked to tie the game in the top of the sixth. Tucker Jones and Weed drew back-to-back walks with two outs, but a strikeout once again brought the inning to a close with the score remaining, 2-1.

The Bobcats then scored two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and one in the eighth while holding the Wolves to three combined baserunners in the seventh through ninth innings to seal the 6-1 win.

Tucker Jones, JD Weed, and Jordan McKenzie all had one hit each while Christian Cameron had one RBI for the Wolves.

Coby Gollott (Ocean Springs) picked up the loss in his first ever collegiate start moving to 0-1 on the season while pitching 5.1 innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Caleb Flynn (Laurel) pitched the final 2.2 innings in relief allowing two runs, both earned, on three hits with one walk.

GAME TWO

The Warriors got off to a fast start against the Wolves as they scored three runs in the top of the first. However, the Wolves responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Brentley Berry (Magee) hit a one-out double and then later scored on a two-out, RBI single by JD Weed making the score, 3-1. Weed then stole second and third, but a strikeout ended the inning.

The Warriors then added two runs in the second to increase their lead to 5-1. The Wolves looked to cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning as they got two runners on with one out, but a successful pickoff followed by a flyout ended the inning with the score remaining, 5-1.

The Warriors then added two runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings while holding the Wolves to just two combined baserunners in those innings to increase their lead to 11-1. The Wolves offense continued to be stalled out by the Warriors in the final two innings of play as the team got two baserunners in each of the sixth and seventh innings but could not push any runs across to cut into the Warriors lead.

Brentley Berry led the Wolves offense going 2-for-3 at the plate while JD Weed, Jordan McKenzie, Christian Cameron, Sam Cook (Shubuta), and Sam Thomas (Madison) had one hit each. Weed led the team with one RBI.

Dee Morgan (Tallulah, LA) got the start and picked up the loss moving to 0-2 on the season. Morgan pitched three innings allowing seven runs, all earned, on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Lucas Harrington pitched two innings of relief allowing four runs, all earned, on four hits with one walk and one strikeout while Judson Griffin (Brookhaven) pitched two innings of scoreless and hitless relief with two strikeouts.

Co-Lin is now 6-6 overall and will return to action hosting No. 25 Delgado on Friday, February 23. First pitch between the Dolphins and the Wolves is set for 2 p.m., at Sullivan Field in Wesson.
