
Wolves Season Ends in Region 23 Tournament
DECATUR – The Co-Lin Baseball team finished the 2025 season with three games across two days in the Region 23 Tournament. The Wolves played the East Central Warriors in a Winner's Bracket game on Wednesday, May, 7, dropping the game, 10-0. The Wolves then bounced back and won 8-5 over the Jones Bobcats eliminating them from the tournament then fell in the nightcap to the Warriors, 13-9, to end the season on Thursday, May 8.
GAME ONE
The Winner's Bracket game against East Central saw the Warriors jump ahead with one run in the bottom of the first. The Warriors then scored five runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth, and ended the game with three runs in the sixth to seal the 10-0 victory.
Trey Davidson (Brandon) had the lone hit of the game for the Wolves. Cohen Weinhofer (Ocean Springs) got the start and fell to 7-6 overall with the loss while pitching 3.2 innings and allowing six runs, two earned, on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Tanner Blackwell (Flora) pitched 0.2 innings of relief allowing one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts. Dee Morgan (Tallulah, LA) pitched one inning of relief allowing two earned runs on two hits with two walks and one strikeout. Jaco Buffalo (Foxworth) pitched 0.1 innings of relief allowing one earned run on one hit with one strikeout.
GAME TWO
The first game of the day for the Wolves saw them take an early lead against the Bobcats as Reise Thomas (Florence) led off the game by crushing a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence for a leadoff solo home run. His seventh home run of the season gave the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.
The Wolves held the lead until the bottom of the fourth when the Bobcats used back-to-back singles followed by a sacrifice fly to score one run and tie the game at 1-1. The Wolves responded with four runs in the top of the fifth as Brady White (Ethel) and Evan Holifield (Stringer) were hit-by-pitch in back-to-back at-bats to start the inning. Bradley Hanlon (Monroe, LA) then reached on an error scoring White to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead. Gavin Bledsoe (Brandon) then dropped a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Avery Griffin (Brookhaven) then hit an RBI-single scoring Holifield to increase the lead to 3-1. Then back-to-back sacrifice flies by Thomas and Tucker Jones (Brandon) scored Hanlon and Bledsoe respectively making the lead, 5-1.
The Wolves then added three runs in the top of the seventh as Hanlon drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and took third on an error on the play, then scored on an RBI-single by Bledsoe. Bledsoe then advanced to third on a double by Griffin while both then scored as Thomas reached on an error pushing the lead to 8-1.
The Bobcats then scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but a groundout stopped the scoring rally and secured the 8-5 victory for the Wolves.
The Wolves totaled eight hits as a team with Avery Griffin leading the way with three hits while Gavin Bledsoe had two hits with Reise Thomas, Tucker Jones, and Brady White had one hit each. Thomas led the Wolves in RBIs with two while Jones, Bledsoe, and Griffin had one RBI each.
Jennings Kimbrell (Flowood) got the start and improved to 11-4, taking the lead in the wins in the MACCC, while pitching seven innings and allowing one earned run on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Lucas Harrington (Youngsville, LA) pitched 1.2 innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits with two walks and one strikeout. Nash Sturdivant (Brandon) needed just one pitch to pick his ninth save of the season, tying him for the lead in the MACCC.
GAME THREE
The Wolves second game of the day saw the Warriors take an early lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first making the score, 4-0.
That lead held for the Warriors until the Wolves responded with six runs in the top of the third as Sam Cook (Shubuta), Avery Griffin, and Reise Thomas hit three straight singles to load the bases with one out. Tucker Jones then hit a two-RBI single scoring Cook and Griffin to cut the lead down to 4-2. Thomas then scored as Trey Davidson reached on an error cutting the lead down to one run at 4-3. Later in the inning, Bradley Hanlon hit a two-RBI single scoring Jones and Davidson while Hanlon then scored on an RBI-single by Gavin Bledsoe giving the Wolves a 6-4 lead.
The Warriors then scored one run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead down to 6-5 while a five-run bottom of the fourth gave the Warriors a 10-6 lead. The Wolves then scored one run in the top of the fifth as Jones got the offense going with a one-out single while Davidson reached on an error to put two runners on with one out. Jones then scored on a steal of home to cut the lead down to 10-7. However, the Warriors responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to push their lead to 12-7.
The Wolves then added a run in the top of the sixth as Evan Holifield stepped up to the plate with two outs on the board, took one swing of the bat, and crushed 3-2 pitch over the fence in centerfield for a solo home run, his fifth of the season, cut the lead down to 12-8. The Wolves then added a single run in the top of the seventh as Jones hit a one-out single. After Jones stole second, Davidson drew a walk to put two runners on with one out. After Jones stole third, he then scored on a sacrifice fly by Lucas Harrington making the score, 12-9.
The Wolves were then retired in order in the top of the eighth as the Warriors added a run in the bottom half to increase their lead to 13-9. The Wolves then started the ninth inning with back-to-back groundouts while Jones then hit a two-out single to extend the inning, but a groundout by the next batter ended the game and season for the Wolves.
The Wolves totaled 12 hits as a team with Tucker Jones leading the way with four hits while Sam Cook had two hits with Reise Thomas, Lucas Harrington, Bradley Hanlon, Gavin Bledsoe, Evan Holifield, and Avery Griffin had one hit each. Jones and Hanlon led the Wolves in RBIs with two apiece while Davidson, Harrington, Bledsoe, and Holifield had one RBI each.
Tanner Blackwell got the start and moved to 0-4 with the loss while pitching three innings and allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits with two walks. Jacob Buffalo pitched 0.2 innings of relief allowing three runs, all earned, on one hit with two walks while Nash Sturdivant pitched one inning of relief allowing two earned runs on two hits with three walks. Dee Morgan pitched 3.1 innings of relief allowing one unearned run on two hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Co-Lin finishes the season 34-25 overall.
