Wolves host Pearl River for final game of the season

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves (4-4, 2,3) play host to Pearl River Community College (4-4, 3-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m. for homecoming. Both teams are vying for winning seasons as Saturday's contests is the final game of the season. The game is the 82nd meeting between the programs in which Co-Lin holds a series 41-38-3 lead over the Wildcats. Co-Lin enters Saturday's matchup off a 45-3 dominating win over Southwest Community College in Summit, while PRCC comes to H.L. Stone Stadium after a 31-27 upset over No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast in Poplarville last Saturday.

The Wolves' defense continued its dominating play last week as they held the Bears of Southwest Mississippi to just 77 total yards on 40 plays. Co-Lin's defense is second in the MACJC an tenth in the nation in yards allowed with just 257.8 allowed per game. The Wolves rank first in the league and fifth in the nation in sacks on the year with 34 and are tied for first in the league and are seventh in the nation in points allowed per game with just 18.3 through eight contests. The Wildcats of Pearl River rank eleventh in the state in yards allowed with 434.9 per game and tenth in points allowed per game with 33.9.

Co-Lin has racked up 2,855 yards on the year offensively with 1,581 rushing yards and 1,274 passing yards. Freshman quarterback Woody Barrett, who has thrown for 1,094 yards and six scores, leads the Wolves. The Auburn transfer has also rushed for six touchdowns and 493 yards. Deion Dampier, a freshman running back from Pinola, Miss., has accumulated 534 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, while his counterpart Rico Owens, a freshman from Greenwood, Miss., has 391 yards and five scores.

Sophomore Ryan Drew leads the Wolves' receiving corps in yards with 257 and a score. Jalen Browder, a freshman from Dallas, Ga., has 206 yards and Jemarcus Weatherall, a sophomore from Greenwood, Miss., has 189 yards. Kobe Gates, a Jackson State transfer from Walnut Grove, Miss., leads the receivers in touchdowns with three.

Quarterback Markevion Quin, who has 833 passing yards and 748 rushing yards, leads the Wildcats. The freshman has accounted for 20 touchdowns this season.
