Wolves finish third in conference opener

WEST POINT, Mississippi – The Co-Lin Wolves captured third place in the East Mississippi Invitational Golf Tournament held at Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point. The tournament is the first event of the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference's season.

"We played pretty well on probably the toughest course we will play," said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. "We just need to have more consistency as well as avoiding some big numbers."­­

The Wolves finished with a two-day total of 627 (314-313). East Central won the team title with 619 (306-313) five shots ahead of second place Northeast Mississippi at 624. Meridian finished fourth with a 628 (322-306) followed by Jones College at 639 (320-319). Other team scores included East Mississippi 647 (337-310), Itawamba 663 (345-318), Hinds 677 (335-342), Southwest Mississippi 689 (343-346), and Pearl River 774 (383-391).

Individually, Co-Lin was led by freshman Lander Guibert (San Sebastian, Spain) who finished in a three-way tie for third place at 151 (73-78) and Oscar Toreld (Binnerback, Sweden) tied for sixth at 152 (78-74). Both were named to the All-Tournament Team. Jaime Hernandez (Palma De Mallorca, Spain) fired 157 (81-76), Harlan Brewer (Wesson) shot 167 (82-85), and Reese McLaurin (Laurel) 171 (82-89) to round out the individual scoring.  

The Wolves will be back in action October 2-3 at the East Central Invitational at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia.
