Lady Wolves Blitz Southwest Tennessee in Season Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A dominating effort shown by the Lady Wolves on both sides of the pitch led to a 7-0 win over Southwest Tennessee in Memphis on Thursday, August 18.

"This was an excellent way to kick off our season," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "We had a lot of different players gain some valuable game experience and confidence."

"The hard work we put into the preseason really reflected our level of play and high tempo," stated Lady Wolves co-captain Anacia Leyland (St. Helens, England). "Every player won their one v one battles which helped to keep us composed and organized."

The Lady Wolves scoring started midway through the first half as freshman defender Karson Harper (Brandon) found the back of the net on a penalty kick goal to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead at the 26th minute. The 1-0 advantage held as the horn sounded for halftime.

The Lady Wolves wasted little time starting their six goal second half as sophomore forward Taylor Ford (Florence) broke away from the Saluqis defense and found the back of the net in the 48th minute to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Lady Wolves then scored five goals in 21 minutes as sophomore midfielder Annellise Bell scored in the 60th minute with an assist from Ford, while Ford scored her second goal of the half and match just two minutes later to give the Lady Wolves a 4-0 lead. Freshman forward Leyton Roberson (Brookhaven) then scored back-to-back goals in the 71st and 75th minutes with an assist from freshman defender Chloe Nash (Byram) to give the Lady Wolves a 6-0 lead. The final goal came in the 81st minute as sophomore Jenna Long beat the Saluqis keeper with an assist from freshman midfielder Keely Marshall to give the final score of 7-0.

"I think our effort level was excellent. We came in strong and with a high intensity," stated Lady Wolves co-captain Riely Laird (Clinton). "Our freshmen fit right in with the speed of play, even those who came off the bench for us. We were clinical in front of the goal and adjusted early to get the result we wanted."

"Having multiple different goal scorers and keeping a clean sheet was a massive bonus. This was honestly a complete team performance," added Cosgrave. "Hopefully we can keep building off this performance moving forward."
